The Shazam! sequel is happening! The new movie will be released on April 1, 2022 but the announcement isn’t a prank.
SHAZAM 2 Black Adam
Zachary Levi will return as the film’s title character and superhero. Black Adam is a character who is typically Shazam’s arch-nemesis and its expected that Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock will star opposite of Levi.
Warner Bros. announced its lineup for the next several years, including Aquaman 2and another DC title, The Flash, which speeds into theaters July 1, 2022.

Warner Bros. also announced release dates for DC Comics films that includes Birds of Prey (February 7, 2020), Wonder Woman 1984 (June 5, 2020), The Batman(June 5, 2021), The Suicide Squad(August 6, 2021) and Black Adam(December 22, 2021), now joining them are The Flash and then Aquaman 2 (December 16).
Shazam! 2 has been announced for some time now, but what we haven’t known is when it will be filming. We may finally have an update on that.
One of the biggest concerns about Shazam! 2 is how the kids are aging. When using child actors, you only have so much time before their look completely changes. With a release date set for 2022, three years since the original, that was definitely on minds. Of course, before a movie is released, one must film it, and now we have a better idea of when that may be.
Asher Angel, who played Billy Batson in the first movie, recently spoke to ET Live in support of his upcoming music releases. He was asked about the sequel and said, “I think we start filming really soon, so I’m super excited. I don’t know – I haven’t read the script yet.”
While not specific, it makes sense it would start filming soon. Black Adam is due to begin filming this summer for a Dec. 22, 2021 release, so it makes sense Shazam! 2 would be in the mix somewhere as well.
While rumors have been popping up constantly about Black Adam, nothing has surfaced as of yet on what we can expect from Shazam! 2. We’re eager to learn more.
Shazam! 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on April 1, 2022.
